Outer Banks - Ocracoke & Cape Hatteras

When visiting Emerald Isle, one our most popular Crystal Coast day trips is Ocracoke and Cape Hatteras Island. For those who want to check off more NC Lighthouses from your must see list, this is one adventure you'll enjoy. Located at the southernmost tip of North Carolina's Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and boasts almost 16 miles of pristine, undeveloped beaches. Accessible only by ferry, private boat or plane, Ocracoke still has the cozy feel of a small fishing village. You'll find several restaurants, gift shops, and some of the most desirable beaches to enjoy with your family. Ocracoke Light was built in the town in 1823. The lighthouse stands 75 feet tall and it is the oldest operating lighthouse in North Carolina, and the second oldest in the United States.

Cape Hatteras Island is home to the nationally famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Built in 1870, this light house is the tallest brick light house in the US.
