America’s Tall Ship, The US Coast Guard Eagle, is set to be moored in Morehead City from March 27th – 30th as part of spring training for Coast Guard and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration officer candidates.
Originally constructed in 1936 and commissioned as a training vessel by the German Navy, the Eagle was taken by the United States as a war reparation following World War II. At 295 feet in length, with more than 23,500 sq. ft. of sail and six miles of rigging, the Eagle is the largest tall ship and the only active commissioned sailing vessel in use today by the US Coast Guard. Since 1946, the Eagle has been used as an at sea classroom for future Coast Guard officers.
The Eagle will be making its second appearance in the Crystal Coast since its July 2006 visit for the Pepsi Americas’ Sail event. Public tours will be available in Morehead City on March 27th and 28th.
Book your getaway today and partake in this one of a kind experience!
