That is why we live the season all year round. We never apologize for our slower pace, our laid back attitudes, or our never ending urge to head to the beach, night or day. The ocean's healing and calming power is unexplainable, but we know it works magic. Many choose to shed their watches; after all, who needs them when you're on "Island Time"?

You can experience our splendid summer way of life year 'round in Emerald Isle. We are fortunate in that we are located at the southern most tip of the Outer Banks, located on Bogue Banks in Carteret County. Our barrier island is over 26 miles long with our small town occupying the western 12 miles. Location is everything when you are seeking a spring, fall or winter getaway.

Perfect spring days are made for long walks on virtually secluded beaches. After a few months of winter high tides, beach combing for seashells is ideal this time of year. If golfing, kayaking or windsurfing is your pleasure, you will feel right at home here during the spring. Local, historic gardens are never more beautiful than when our southern flowers burst into bloom late March through April.

Fall weather at Emerald Isle is hard to beat, and fishing couldn't be better. The arrival of autumn to the island brings the long awaited harvest of fresh, salty Bogue Sound oysters and the most breath-taking cherry red sunsets you'll probably ever experience. September days are fine and warm, nights a little cooler. October and November have brilliant sunny days with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Nightly lows range from the 40s to the 60s. These are perfect days for rocking in your rocking chair with a good book overlooking the sound or cruising down the beach on a bike with the breeze blowing through your hair. Shopping during the fall months offers a less hurried style for those avid, early-bird holiday shoppers - you'll find our great end of season discounts hard to beat. You can't really experience the best of fall here on the island without a fishing pole. Either by boat, charter, surf or pier fishing, your day's catch will turn into a scrumptious dinner.

Celebrate the holidays!
Seasons may change but the things you love about Emerald Isle stay the same. Many extended families have discovered that the same large beach home perfect for summer reunions is ideal for a clan gathering at Thanksgiving. Where else can you see Santa Claus arrive by sailboat on the Saturday after "turkey day"? A crisp winter getaway is the perfect solace for the folks tired of winter's ice and winds. A good selection of our cottages and condos are available during the winter months, which we call our "Islander Season."

Winter snow and ice may be unpleasant in your part of the world, but our mild winter months are gentle enough for great days of golf (our greens are Emerald green all winter) or deep sea fishing for large tuna. You won't need much more than shirtsleeves or a sweater by noon during most of our sunny winter days. Attractive Islander Season rates make this time of year even more special for a weekend getaway.
