Hurricane Irene
Post Hurricane Irene Update #1 from Emerald Isle Realty Sunday, August 28, 2011
The Emerald Isle Bridge will re-open today at 1:00pm Check-in will begin at 5:00 pm At this time it appears damages are minimal and we were truly blessed that Irene had become a more disorganized storm and downgraded to a Category 1 before she made landfall near Harkers Island in Down East Carteret County. This schedule only applies to the town of Emerald Isle. No one will be allowed to access other towns on Bogue Banks via Emerald Isle until those towns are open. Thank you for your patience. Emerald Isle Town staff and Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative have worked hard to insure public safety when the public returns to Emerald Isle. Power has been restored to most homes in Emerald Isle that are served by the main transmission line that crosses the bridge. These homes are generally in the western area of Town. Crews are working hard to restore power to the homes served by the main transmission line that comes into Emerald Isle from the east along Bogue Banks. Please be patient. For our arriving guests, we strongly encourage you to wait until 5:00pm for check-in as we will need to do a property by property assessment prior to giving out key packages. Guests staying for two weeks whose stay was interrupted are being given priority on the inspections list. If your vacation rental is not suitable for occupancy we will assist you in finding a comparable place. All will not be quite as beautiful and spiffy as we like our homes to be for your arrival but we promise we will continue to work long hours to make your vacation a great one. Thanks in advance for your patience and be sure to bring a spirit of adventure with you also. As promised today is a beautiful day, hot and sunny. For our homeowners that live within driving distance, we hope to see you on the island today also. We will need you to roll up your sleeves and work side by side with us to ensure your vacation rental is ready to welcome the next family. Our housekeeping teams are being deployed to assist in damage assessment first. By working hard and late on Thursday and Friday, over 160 properties were cleaned after rental guests’ evacuated and prior to Irene’s arrival. Linen deliveries will be in progress all afternoon until all packages are delivered. Swimming pools will require significant cleaning and will be our first priority Monday morning. We regret that Irene meant a delay in the start of your vacation but know you will have a wonderful stay on the Crystal Coast. Our grocery stores, restaurants, museums and gift shops are eager to welcome you back too and show everyone a good time now that we have said Good Bye Irene!
