“Ever since I was a little girl, I have spent my summers with my family at Emerald Isle. I always knew that I wanted to get married there. When my now-husband proposed at sunset on the 4th of July weekend, I knew that was going to be the location of my wedding.
My mom was nervous about having a “destination” wedding, but Heidi and her Emerald Isle Realty team made planning my wedding a breeze. I couldn't have done it without them. EIR assisted with accommodating my guests and made my rehearsal dinner amazing at the Boat House. They helped me find local vendors that made my day so special I wouldn’t change a thing.
My wedding was my dream wedding and the setting at the NC Aquarium was perfect. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my married summers at Emerald Isle and show my future family where Mom and Dad got married and where my grandmother lives.”
And a thank you to Grace Marie...
In 1954 the town of Emerald Isle didn’t really exist yet, and if you drove from Atlantic Beach to Salter Path, the pavement came to a stop about two miles west of Salter Path. The sand stretched forever with stunning wide views of the ocean and the sound, and only a temporary clearing to mark a road made of sand. That didn’t stop Grace Marie Elliott and her husband from buying one of the first lots sold in Emerald Isle. Then in 1958 they bought a cottage on 4th Street, financed it with the builder, and it wasn’t too long after that she asked her friend Mildred Simmons to rent their cottage for them.
She recalls that one day Mildred brought her a rocking chair on which to rock her babies, and that thirty years later, she returned it to Mildred’s sister-in-law, Mary Batten. By then, she and Mary had become life-long friends.
We are happy to know Grace Marie, pioneer homeowner on Emerald Isle. She’s the proud owner of several cottages including Sealebrity, Mallingham by the Sea, and Ahoy There. We know many of our guests have happy vacation memories thanks to Grace Marie!
