If you’re looking for a place to relax, visit Hammocks Beach State Park on Bear Island, NC. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast with miles of unspoiled barrier island beaches and maritime forests.
Located just south of Swansboro, you’ll find wild dunes, sand ridges, marshes and wetlands full of wildlife. The beaches are peaceful and uncrowded – the only way to get to the park is by ferry and private boat. Daily passenger ferries are available in the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), with vessels running every 30 minutes.
Hammocks Beach State Park offers many activities that are fun for the whole family. You can enjoy swimming, sunning, picnicking, fishing, camping, shelling, boating and much more. Bathhouses and picnic facilities are available in the center of the island; camping and campfires are permitted only in designated areas. Educational programs also are offered, just check with the Visitors Center for a schedule.
