The Town of Emerald Isle is pleased to announce a FREE way to get around the island this summer with the new weekend trolley service. Every Friday and Saturday, residents and visitors now have an easy alternative to driving and parking during the busiest months of the year. Below is everything you need to know to catch a free ride in Emerald Isle, NC.

About the Trolley Program

The Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners approved funding at its June 9 meeting to run the trolley through Labor Day weekend. It’s being offered as a trial run so the town can evaluate ridership, cost, and whether to bring the service back in future years. The town has already received $1,000 in donations toward the program and is seeking additional outside funding to help offset the cost. A decision on continuing the trolley into 2027 is expected next spring.

What To Know Before You Ride

  • Hours & stops may be adjusted – Check the Town of Emerald Isle’s official website close to your travel dates for any updates.
  • The trolley only runs in the evenings – Plan daytime beach trips and errands around your own vehicle, and ride the trolley to dinner and evening outings.
  • Extended Sunday service is holiday-specific – The trolley only runs on two Sundays (July 5 and September 6). Plan accordingly if your vacation falls on a weekend that isn’t one of these holidays.
