Fall Festivals on North Carolina’s Crystal Coast

With the autumn season comes an abundance of fall events along North Carolina’s Crystal Coast. From seafood festivals to Halloween celebrations, with 200-mile races and kite flights in between, there’s no better time to visit Emerald Isle than in the fall.

The North Carolina Seafood Festival provides endless amounts of FREE world-class entertainment, fun for the whole family, and all of the best seafood you can imagine. Learn how to cook your own dishes, browse through rows of arts & crafts products from local makers or visit the Annual Southern Outer Banks Boat Show and Outdoor Expo. The North Carolina Seafood Festival is one of the area’s most popular events and was recently selected as one of the Top 20 Festivals & Events in the Southeast!

Swansboro Mullet FestivalMullet Festival

Bring on the mullets! The city of Swansboro devotes an entire 2-day festival to the delectable fish, featuring arts and crafts, street vendors, kid’s activities and a big ol’ Mullet Fry. Live entertainment will rock the stage while you enjoy your Mullet fried, broiled, grilled, smoked, or stewed. The Festival kicks off Saturday with a parade along Highway 24 and admission is free!

Try your hand at fishing and you could win this year’s first place prize of $30,000 at the Swansboro King Mackerel Tournament! Not much of a fisherman? You can enjoy live music, exhibitor showcases, and a cash bar. The weigh-in festivities take place both nights, with a free concert at the awards party Saturday night. This year will be an exciting one—there’s nothing fishy about that! All proceeds benefit scholarships and supporting programs and causes in the area.

Tuna Run 200 - Overnight Relay Race from Raleigh to Atlantic BeachTuna Run 200

The Tuna Run is an exciting run like you’ve never seen before! A 200-mile, overnight relay, The Tuna Run begins in Raleigh, North Carolina and ends in Atlantic Beach. But don’t fear, you’re not running this alone. Teams are made up of between 4-12 people who then split the 200 miles into 36 legs. In the end, you’ll need to treat yourself for your hard work. Enjoy tuna, beer, and the beautiful oastline for a job well done.

What’s that in the sky? Just more than 100 kites soaring through the ocean air! Learn all there is to know about kites, fly your own, and watch exciting demonstrations from kite experts. It’s not a trick, spending Halloween at the beach is truly a treat! Bring your family to the Emerald Isle Halloween Carnival with face painting, costume contests, and so much more spooky fun! Seasonal games include a yummy cake walk, donut eating contest, liver toss and more. Admission fee is two bags of candy per child.
